“Implant Assisted Prosthodontics:

Fixed and Removable “

 

Miles Cone, DMD, CDT, FACP

Dr. Miles R. Cone is a graduate of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and completed a three-year Prosthodontic residency program while serving in the United States Army before being honorably discharged as a field grade officer in the rank of Major. In addition to achieving board certification and diplomate status within his specialty, Dr. Cone has also successfully challenged all the requirements necessary to earn his designation as a Certified Dental Technician. Currently,

 

Dr. Cone’s career in civilian life revolves around his dual role as the owner of Nuance Dental Specialists, a private practice dental clinic limited to prosthetic dentistry in the heart of Portland, ME, and his role as Editor in Chief of the American College of Prosthodontists quarterly publication, The Messenger. He is also a member of Catapult Educations speakers bureau and evaluates new products for numerous dental manufacturers.

 

When Dr. Cone is not at the chair, in the classroom teaching, or at the lab bench, he can be found lecturing on the international circuit and publishing extensively in peer-reviewed journals.

 

Course Description:

The first portion of the session will focus on fixed implant prosthetics by demonstrating the fabrication of a direct/indirect immediate single tooth implant provisional restoration. Steps will include diagnostic casts, wax-up, provisional matrix, implant impression techniques, soft-tissue mask, development of soft-tissue profile, bisacryl injection technique, flowable resin addition, provisional contouring, and custom staining. The second portion of the session will be devoted to removable implant prosthetics. The focus will be on the chair side pick-up of commonly used overdenture attachments for a 2-implant-supported overdenture.

 

 

 

Learning Objectives:

● Review various treatment planning principles found in the field of contemporary implant dentistry for both fixed and removable prosthetic options.

● Analyze many of the current materials available to the clinician and dental technician that can be utilized in the restoration of implants, fixed crown and bridge, and removable prosthetic treatment plans.

● Determine the chairside/benchtop protocols that will ensure the highest level of quality and efficacy that will augment successful patient outcomes in the final product at delivery.

● Apply new concepts and techniques within the dental clinic and dental laboratory.

Timothy M. Bizga, DDS, FAGD

Dr. Bizga is a general dentist practicing in Cleveland, Ohio. His practice focuses on comprehensive care, with Dr. Bizga’s special interests in implants, cosmetics and facial aesthetics.

 

His background in dentistry is lengthy and diverse. Once a former chairside assistant, he also worked as a dental lab-technician, making his perspective unique among others in the field of dentistry. He received his DDS from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He is currently a member of the American Dental Association and a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Bizga is a Certified John Maxwell Speaker/Trainer/Coach, a certified DISC profile trainer, clinical consultant for The Dental Advisor and member of Catapult Education. Dr. Bizga gives back to the community via dental missions around the world.

“Direct Restorations in Contemporary Practice”

 

Foroud Hakim, DDS

Dr. Hakim has balanced private practice and dental education for over 27 years in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has a true passion for restorative dentistry ranging from complex rehabilitation to optimally conservative, single tooth restoration. He is former Vice Chair of the Department of Integrated Reconstructive Dental Sciences at University of the Pacific and has been a Director in the Esthetics, Implant and Complex Care Clinic at Pacific.

 

Dr. Hakim has lectured nationally and internationally in many venues including seminars, continuums and hands-on workshops on topics ranging from technology, esthetic dentistry, occlusion, smile design, CAD/CAM, photography, and adhesive and composite dentistry. Dr. Hakim has several publications and has authored two chapters in the 2010 text, Esthetic Dentistry in Clinical Practice from Blackwell Publishing.

 

Dr. Hakim earned his DDS in 1991 from Pacific and later went on to complete an MBA from his alma mater. He is a member of OKU dental honor society and past president of the Delta Delta Chapter. He is also a fellow and graduate of the ADEA Leadership Institute class of 2007 and sits on the board of Catapult Education.

 

 

 

Course Description:

While the use of amalgam as the default direct restorative material has declined worldwide and has even ceased completely based on region, the need for a direct restorative substitute has never been greater. With heightened patient desires for esthetic restoration alternatives, the elimination of metal based restorations and conservative, earlier restorative intervention, resin dentistry is a staple of the
modern general practice.

This course aims to:

  • Review the fundamentals of adhesive dentistry.

  • Demystify the selection process for the best bonding agent for a given practice.

  • Review latest market entries for all composite resin categories.

  • Discuss the latest recommendations for selection, preparation, restoration and polish protocols.

 

 

Course Objectives:

  • Doctors will be able to treatment plan and triage for resin appropriate restorations.

  • Doctors will be able to create anatomically and esthetically ideal final restorations.

  • Doctors will have a clear understanding of versatile isolation techniques.

  • Doctors will be able to create ideal proximal form and contact function.

  • Doctors will understand the concept of building 3 dimensional color within restorations.

  • Doctors will be exposed to ancillary products and techniques that have redefined the efficiency and quality with which direct posterior and anterior composite restorations are delivered.
